It also requires you to get a bit 'hands-on' with editing your aircraft database (named 'basestation.sqb') you also need to understand that every time you download a new database (monthly, I hope!) you need to repeat your database editing.

It does work, I use it every day in my case it removes about 98% of the civil stuff, leaving just the military and 'a handful' of civil. On Nic Storey's web-pages about Plane Plotter there used to be a write-up about CEs (written by me!) but I don't know if it is still there (sorry, not checked for about a year). The CE system is quite complicated, but can be mastered by making small changes, seeing (and understanding) the effect, and then making more small changes. The CE system is much more flexible, much more capable, and much easier to use - you can build a very large CE, which you can't do with your existing procedure. options" method, but you should use the Conditional Expressions (CE) method of getting what you want. Or what do folk do to highlight the Mil Air craft on their screens? As Bev has pointed out in his email, you probably should *not* use the old "options. Is there somewhere I can enter that on the Alert options?

I had read the conditional expressions term AE% highlights military aircraft, but that only seems to affect the Aircraft List view, not the chart window. I tried adding VALOR as an expression in the Flight alert section, but it did not lead to a match. Later in the morning Valor21, a USAF Learjet flew in to a local RAF base. This kind of works for me - the Hawks & Tucanos show up, but the C17 type filter also catches C172 :-( I don't want to highlight those! We always strongly recommend that FEC is never used on data that is shared with the network for that reason.I set up an alert system (chart-match) with a number of settings in order to highlight military traffic of interest.

Military aircraft on planeplotter code#
It may be that the actual hex code of the aircraft is sometimes being corrupted into the hex code of some other aircraft and the details for that are then retrieved from your database. The weakness of FEC is that it can produce false hex codes under some circumstances. It is hard to be sure but my best guess is that you have enabled FEC in your receiver or in the receiver settings. Knowing the hovering capability of P-8's is limited I became suspicious.ĭoes anyone have any idea what might be happening here? Been on PP for many years and this is the first time anything like this has happened.Hi Bill, as it approached my house the BE20 continued its approach to YYC and the 'P-8' sat stationary for a couple of minutes. The 'shadow' aircraft always shows up in blue (ACARS I assume).Ĭouple of days ago I had a USN P-8 'following' a BE20 on approach for 60 miles then. FYI - its not always AE683C that comes up as the 'mil' Mode S. Just now I had AE683C on screen again but as Air Canada 127 and in a completely different part of the province but, for the first time, not 'shadowing' another aircraft. The Mode S code for the 'US mil' aircraft is AE683C but it shows the same call sign (Virgin 106) and the same height, direction, speed and squawk code. The screen grab attached shows Virgin 106 with another 'aircraft' just behind it. In the past week I have been getting indications on Planeplotter that US military aircraft are in my area (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) but all of these seem to be false and looking at the PP screen I always see the 'US mil' aircraft just behind a civilian. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening here? Been on PP for many years and this is the first time anything like this has happened.
